It's kind of weird to be doing these with a new man in front of the cameras although having had ten manager/head coaches/interims, we should've been used to it.

However, it is another former Red who takes charge for the now as Darren Fletcher spoke to the press about becoming caretaker boss, team news and Burnley tomorrow night.

Fletcher did give us a positive team update as he says that both Mount and Bruno "should be back in the squad" ahead of tomorrow's game. However, they'll have to manage their minutes after having just returned to training.

On potentially giving his sons Jack and Tyler their full debuts, their dad said that he won't be revealing too much in terms of selection but says that they were already training before he got there on Monday, as was arranged.

The former United player says it's "surreal" to become the head coach of Man Utd. "It’s an amazing honour to be able to lead a Manchester United team. I don’t think in my wildest dreams that was something that could happen. I’m really proud today.”

In terms of Amorim's sacking, Fletcher did not have the opportunity to speak with the now departed United boss before he left. He adds that he's "not thought about" potentially taking over full-time as all his focus has been on Burnley.

He also says that he'll "speak afterwards" to the board as he is thinking about tomorrow's match.

Final Thoughts

I suppose it is positive team news. We're lacking in numbers and quality especially in attack so it would obviously be a welcome sight to have both Moutn and Bruno back. I don't really know what formation Fletcher plays but I'm guessing it ain't a 3-4-3 😅. If that's the case, playing Bruno as a no 10 would be a HUGE improvement. Even if they can't start, it improves the quality and experience on the bench.

I doubt we'll see both his sons play knowing that we have players returning but if we are comfortable enough, why not?

His lineup will be interesting 👀.

All-in-all, he spoke well and didn't really give too much away.

Reagrdless of the situation, it would be an honour for anyone to be the manager or caretaker boss of Man Utd. For it to be for a likeable guy like Fletcher, it's even greater added to the fact he's an ex player.

Whether what he said regarding not speaking to Amorim before he left is true, we'll never know, but surely he would've had to have known a couple of days ago. I don't think the club waited for him to do that interview as it was reported by ESPN that it wasn't solely because of what Amorim said post the Leeds draw but because "enough signs of evolution or progress" and of course, the crap results.

They must have told Fletcher to just be ready in case they pull the trigger.

I guess he gave the political response which isn't unsurprising. So was his response about talking to the higher-ups at the club about a permanent deal. Again, Fletcher went the political route and said that focus is only on Burnley.

As the main thing is the football, this isn't a shock. However, he will want to do everything he can in order to become the permanent manager I mean head coach similarly to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer who seems like he's already signed da ting IYKYK.

Fletcher also wasn't asked too many difficult questions so as to ease him into the role. I think it's just the journalists being nice to him until they eventually gain control over him as they did with Ole. They'll be pretty happy with him returning.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
