I'm tired. Literally as it is 1 in the morning as I write this but also just tired of United.
What was the point in sacking Amorim mid-season? I don't see any benefits from doing it now. If you kept him through all of those other crap results, you may as well have kept him to the end.
While he was here, despite poor results and not making the most of others slipping up and moving higher in the table, we at least remained joint-5th.
He leaves, we still drop stupid points to relegation fodder but we've now gone down into 7th after Newcastle's late win over Leeds. Like where TF have they come out from?!
To be fair to Fletcher though, I don't blame him. I don't think he could've done any more with what was available. He picked a strong enough team, he played the formation we wanted, Bruno was at no 10, he made some good substitutions (one was almost inspired with Lacey) and all-in-all, he did alright.
β
But this goes beyond the manager/head coach. It's on the stupidity of the club!
United were good in this game and should've won based on how we performed. But, we didn't. We've seen this type of game before under Amorim.
Things like giving youngsters a chance who could've potentially made a difference was something the previous manager never did, playing Bruno as an attacking midfielder, and making sensible substitutions (no taking off attackers for defenders), were all improvements from Amorim.
However, we still conceded 2 silly goals with four at the back (Burnley actually had 1 shot on target but scored 2 goals π€), and there was a lack of control in the midfield. Casemiro was playing as if he was running through sand. His lack of tracking back led to Burnley's opener and his overall performance was flat. The midfield was the area everyone was calling out for in terms of reinforcements.
United aren't going to resolve that problem with January signings. David Ornstein said that the club will stick to their original plan for the winter window even after Amorim's sacking, which according to him, was to do nothing.

While there were improvements in certain areas, in others, the same issues remained. We were still good going forward but were average defensively. To concede 2 goals to a Burnley side that had scored just 8 at home before this match is embarrassing!
Like in other games, we managed to get back into it and then take the lead. But we also managed to not hold onto said lead to the point where we don't get the win. How many times has this happened throughout the season?
Look I know that this was one game and we can't be expecting massive improvements but we surely could've expected more than another disappointing draw to a crap team.
And this is now a problem because we're no longer in those Champions League positions and we've played all of the easy teams. Our next two league games are City and Arsenal, we still have to play LFC, Chelsea and Spurs, still have to go to the likes of Bournemouth, Sunderland, Brighton and Newcastle, still have to play Villa and you can bet we'll probably drop stupid points against the likes of Forest and West Ham again!
We need European football and it's still up for grabs. CL football was the goal but even with those around us (mainly Liverpool and Chelsea) being inconsistent as well, the chance of playing in Europe's elite club competition was there.
Now though, I fear that hopes of a top 4 finish are dwindling.
This wasn't a post discussing the game and I'm sorry for that, but like I said at the start, I'm just tired. Tired of seeing the same things over and over to a point where it really is insanity.

ββ These guys are the real problem along with Sir Jim Ratcliffe and the Glazers. Until they're gone, we'll NEVERΒ be as great as we once were.
Constant repetition where there's been no significant improvements to a point where you can see that something is happening. It's also trying for the short-term fix yet planning for a project that will take years. This would mean early problems with loads of ups and downs but that is part of the process. You learn what the issues are through this period, try to improve it and then we take things from there.
But that isn't the case. I don't think we'll see that type of patience and trust in a process again, unless we get new owners.
