He did it!. WE did it as well.
Bruno Fernandes makes Premier League HISTORY by picking up his 21st assist of the season.
And we did it as well as we've comes through this pretty awful campaign - let's be honest.
At least with this assist record though, and ending off the season with a pretty comfortable 3-0 triumph gave us something to smile about and something to remember this 25/26 campaign by.
β
Before this match, all the talk was about Bruno breaking the record. Most didn't even care what the result was which shows you how desperate we were for this record but more importantly, how desperate we were for him to make history.
Any player doing it would've been great but for a man nay wizard who's given everything he possible can for this club to be the outright holder of the assist record, makes it even better.
β
This game had a bit of a pre-season friendly type feel. Brighton were surprisingly shit despite having a chance at qualifying for the Champions League, and with no pressure, United just looked to be going through the motions for the first 20 minutes or so.
Carrick made a couple of rotations the biggest of which was Cunha benched for Dorgu, which actually turned out to be a great decision.
Even though we were flat for half of the first half, one attack leads to one corner which led to history. We laugh at Arsenal for being 'set-piece FC' but in truth, United are. Every time we get one of these, we feel a goal is coming.
And that feeling was right as it was Dorgu who leapt highest and got his head on it from the Bruno delivery to give United the lead and the magnifco his 21st assist.
β
Out of all players, Dorgu would've been the last I would have expected to score a header.
But that was the moment we kicked on as United began to create some good openings.
And that second goal...
This was perhaps the best team goal we've scored all season as some lovely quick, precise interplay on the right flank led to a tap-in for Mbeumo who's now scored in back-to-back games for the first time since Carrick's first three matches in charge.
Amad registered his first goal involvement under the new boss with this assist as well.
But what that goal - along with a couple other instances this season - showed is that when we want to, United can actually play some really good football, football that we truly want to see return to this great club.
I really enjoyed that goal.
β
We came out firing in the second half as not long after the restart, the captain gets on the scoresheet. A reversal of what happened for the opener as Dorgu assisted him. A drilled strike in the bottom corner gave the goalkeeper no chance.
Despite having 30 minutes left, the game ended with that 3rd goal as very little else happened thereafter.
Carrick then started to make changes as Lacey was brought on after an hour for the impressive Dorgu who picked up a goal and assist in his first start since Arsenal.
We also saw a farewell for Malacia who came on for the final stages as he departs United on a free.
I won't say that this was the most controlled performance by United and it did come with one or two issues, but if we see more games like that next season, I think it's safe to say,
No 21 is coming home.
That is sarcasm but you can't help but get a little giddy π .
β
3-0, 3 points, history made. Kind of the perfect afternoon to end of the campaign.
Now, the real work starts.
Carrick has done superbly to get us to this position of 3rd and back in Europe. How he's stabilized things and brought back some hope is something that even a doubter myself, cannot ignore.
There is now more optimism for next season given how well he's done in his 17 matches. The response from the players, the results we've picked up, and just the overall joy the fans have had in these six months is not something that I think many would've thought was going to happen when he stepped in as interim.
He's done so well, he even became permanent boss.
If we can have this type of continuity next season, then bring it on NOW!

Just before I go, I just want to say a BIG thank you for the support you've shown me. I know that at this point, it isn't as big a community as I would want but you gotta start somewhere, right?
Yet through doing all this, I've learned more about myself than I've ever done before and it's all because of this great club we support and for having the chance to talk to people like you who while we don't agree on everything (which is kind of the point), just being able to talk to you and discuss United has made me feel not so lonely.
Often, I feel unheard or unseen to the point where it feels like I don't even exist.
Yet here and with the content on TikTok and Instagram, I do feel seen. I do feel heard. And because of that, because of you, I don't feel so lonely.
So once again, thank you for the support. It has been a weird season with the lack of games and the ups and downs but at least it ended on a positive. Thank you for going on this journey with me.
I truly am grateful ππ.
Onwards and upwards for next season. For us all. Cheers π».
Hopefully 21 is our lucky number.
