Honestly, I don't get what the point of these comments were or at least the timing of them.

We all know what Bruno said. The contents of those quotes are quite ridiculous in itself but surely these are things you say after you leave the club or when you want to get out of there right now, just like Cristiano Ronaldo.

‍

These comments are so unfathomable, that at first glance, I truly thought it was AI or some bullshit. However, the longer those quotes from earlier inthe week stayed up and the more outlets spoke about them, the more I believed they were true.

To them come out with another interview with United legend Rio Ferdinand and say these things and more once again, means that they must be true.

However, the contradictory nature of it is what baffles me the most.

‍

Here's my initial reaction to the comments from throughout the week:

‍

Like I said, the contradiction in what he's saying is the part that really gets me.

‍

To go from 'the club wanted me to stay' to 'the club wanted me to go' and 'the club said no, we need you' confuses you to a point where you question which part is true.

Did they want him to stay? Did they want him to go? Who TF knows?!

‍

For it to be coming out from the captain as well adds fuel to this fire because it's one thing if it's coming out from someone on the periphery or not getting game time, but from the skipper who always plays, is loved by many involved with United, is highly paid and is doing wonders this season in terms of his form, again, makes you think why say this at all and let it come out now.

As per the video, you can see that these quotes were very recent rather than towards the end of last season when it may have made more sense.

‍

But what it can show me is where the club stand. Are they a serious football club or not?

‍

These type of things have been going on for far too long. In a way, it's kind of like player power as Bruno knows he can probably say something like this and get away with it otherwise, he probably wouldn't have said anything at all.

I remember when Paul Pogba's then agent Mino Raiola said something regarding the player which got a lot of people upset mainly because of the timing of it as it was just before an important Champions League group stage game against RB Leipzig which would've determined whether United made it out the group or not: “Paul’s unhappy at Manchester United, he can’t express himself any more as he would like to and as we expect of him."

He also said that “He has to change teams, he needs a change of scene" and hinted that he should leave in the summer of 2021 rather than when his contract expired in 2022.

This may not have come from the player's mouth and Pogba himself did clear things up by saying “Bla bla is not important. The future is far, today is what matters and I am 1000% involved! Always strong together.. all has been clear between the club and myself and that will never change.

“When you don’t know what’s going on inside don’t talk  #SpeakTheTruthOrRemainSilent #united  #talktothehand."

However, nothing was really done after this to inform the player that something like this won't be tolerated.

‍

The only time we saw something done when a player spoke out against the manager or club was after the recent Europa League final defeat to Spurs when Alejandro Garnacho said “Until we reached the final, I played every round… and today I played 20 minutes. I don’t know. “It’s hard for everyone. Our season was s* … we lost the final, we didn’t beat anyone in the league. We lacked a lot of things.”

This expressed his frustrations at his lack of minutes in that final as well as the season overall which as you can see, he called "shit." He may not have been wrong but to say it publicly was the problem. He then went on to wear the Aston Villa shirt (read the preview here) with Rashford on the back which turned out to be one of his last acts as a United player.

It was then easy for the club to remove him because he acted like an arse and lost a lot of favours with the fan base.

The same goes for the rest of the bomb squad as it was simpler to remove players who weren't performing and who weren't as well-liked as someone like Bruno.

‍

Had Garnacho said what the skipper said, they probably wouldn't let things slide.

This is exactly what I think they'll do with the magnifico.

‍

United whether under just the Glazers or now INEOS have never really punished players whenever they've stepped out of line. This by Bruno gives them the opportunity to show us whether they won't be taking any shit or if they will do nothing.

You look at the Mo Salah situation at Liverpool. He said what he said and was left out of the matchday squad entirely for Liverpool's win at Inter in the Champions League.

Will United do anything of that sort?

‍

I honestly believe there's more of a chance they build a statue of the captain rather than punish him.

Bruno will start and lead the team out on Sunday, I have no doubts about that.

‍

It's just really unnecessary at this point. It just condones the narrative that United are a circus.

These comments by Bruno, Amorim on the academy, Mainoo's half-brother with that t-shirt. It seems that the focus is on more than the football itself which while is making small progress, isn't anywhere near whaere we want to be.

Bruno talks about the club telling him the goal is to still win trophies. What trophies are those? Carabao Cup? I mean, we can't even beat Grimsby in that competition.

It can't be the Premier League and certainly not the Champions League as we can't even qualify for that.

By the time we look set enough to win those trophies (if we ever do again which seems like a distant dream), Bruno will probably be in his mid- to late-twenties and perhaps left the club.

Even such promises should've been seen by the skipper as unrealistic, at least in the immediate future.

I also feel like he would prefer to play further forward as it gets the best out of him. With the manager saying he wants Bruno to stay as he sees him as part of the project, surely he would've told him that it was in central midfield rather than no 10? Wouldn't that have made Bruno think twice about staying?

‍

Honestly, it seems that every other week or day there is some stupid story that comes out of the club. The focus isn't even on a pretty big game on Sunday, which is the most important thing.

I don't see this type of shit happen at other clubs.

What are your thoughts? What will happen from here on with the skipper? If anything?

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
