"You don't need to coach them in this level"

Ruben Amorim's 'concern'

I love this quote by the boss. In fact, I've been loving all of his interviews as a lot of what he says not only makes sense, but is what most of the fans have been saying for a long time.

After the disappointing draw at Ipswich in his opening game, Amorim had a lot to say, both good and bad, regarding his side's performance as well as that of individuals.

The 39-year-old singled out the likes of Onana, Amad, Mazraoui, Bruno, Garnacho and substitute Zirkzee, who the manager was seen given rigorous instructions to before coming on.

But the quote of the night went to:

β€œDecision-making is a concern, you don't need to coach them in this level. We are doing some things not in the right moment and that's what we have to address. The 3-4-3 is not the concern, the understanding of the game is what we have to improve.”

'Decision-making is a concern.' πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

'You don't need to coach them in this level.' πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘

Absolutely spot on.

Couldn't have put it better myself.

‍

These are aspects of the game that we've been complaining about for so long, we can't even remember the last time we didn't complain about them.

The decision-making by our players is piss poor. The amount of times we'll get into good positions only for the wrong option to be chosen, is countless. This not only results in missed opportunities but also frustration for all.

The carelessness in and out of possession is not good enough, we are too sloppy too often, the focus is up and down, and how many times do we mention that there is poor in-game management?

These are all simple mistakes that shouldn't be in our game or at least not happening as often as they do. This is why Amorim says it's a concern because it's not something that needs to be coached.

The players should be good enough to do these things properly to begin with.

Clearly, they aren't.

‍

‍

This is why I'm glad that this first match under Amorim went the way it did and the performance was nothing to get us off our seats.

He needed to see the real United.

I'm also really happy that he has identified all of these issues really early on although one doesn't have to be a genius to do so.

All of these schoolboy errors will teach him a lot more about his team than any training session ever would. We all saw the smiles and positive vibes from training, but this draw would've truly hit the spot.

‍

But what all these great comments and interviews has done is remind me of managers of the past.

Ralf Rangnick gave possibly the best press conferences we've ever had at the club in which he would break down things in detail giving us a clearer and better understanding of the issues at Old Trafford.

His iconic 'heart surgery' quote still stands true today, almost three years later.

Even former boss Erik ten Hag delivered some brutal but honest lines when he first arrived at United. His first season saw some truly on point quotes where he spoke a lot of sense.

However, that all fell away as Rangnick was sacked by the end of the season and ten Hag decided to spew shite instead of facts post that 22/23 campaign.

Amorim so far, is following suit. His first few interviews have been superb and underline a lot of problems that we've been seeing at United for years.

Whether he can carry on this honesty in the public eye remains to be seen.

‍

I suppose the difference is that Amorim has a new football board above him whereas Rangnick and ten Hag had whatever it was they had. I don't think we can even call that a football board when looking at how INEOS have done things in a short space of time compared to that previous regime.

Perhaps this new board will be okay with Amorim speaking his mind and letting the world know his feelings.

Or maybe they will tell him to tone things down much like the previous board.

The Glazers are still the owners of the club. Perhaps their say is still very powerful.

Whatever happens, I'm just enjoying these brutally honest assessments from our new boss, however long that may last.

‍

Some of Amorim's other quotes after the game:

"We have TWO ways. We forget about the new idea and try to cope so next year we have the same problem."

"Or we start NOW, risk a little bit, suffer a little bit and in the next year we will be better at this point."

πŸ‘† that was another banger. Again, why this type of performance was so important. Short term pain for long term gain.

‍

"I know it's frustrating for the fans, but we are changing so much in this moment with a lot of games.

We are going to suffer for a long period and we will try to win games."

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
