This isn't the first time we've seen deals like these that last a lifetime (4 weeks) and nor will it be the last. I believe Fabrizio Romano has done several 'Here we go's' for the actual 'Here we go' as this guy (and others) are constantly giving us updates on a deal that we know is going to happen?
I do think it will but the longer it drags on the more concerned you get. This is Man Utd after all and we know we are great at cocking up.
Like I said, I think with all the noise and the fact that Mbeumo is still willing to join United (United are the only club he wants despite there being interest from Spurs), we will see the Cameroonian at Old Trafford next season.
Although...
Yesterday Brentford's Sporting Director came out and said this regarding the 25 year old:
"As things stand, we do not have an agreement in place for him to leave. It's not impossible that he'll still be a Brentford player next season. It has to be the right deal for Brentford. If it isn't, why would we agree to it."
So while United are still the frontrunner for his signature, it isn't a foregone conclusion that Mbeumo will definitely join Ruben's Reds.
The worrying part about what Phil Giles said was that Mbeumo would be happy to stay at Brentford. Even with the loss of their manager Thomas Frank to Spurs and influential midfielder Christian Norgaard to Arsenal, Mbeumo is happy to remain with the Bees if the right offer doesn't come in.
Brentford also have the option to extend the forward's current deal (which ends in June 2026) by a further year which does give them a bit of an upper hand over United.
We know that United's two deals for the player have been rejected as Brentford appear to be trying to eek out as much money from the Red Devils as possible.
The initial thought was that they wanted a fee that was similar to the £62.5m United paid Wolves for Matheus Cunha. A lot of people were pretty happy with that as it seemed a fair price considering the qualities of both players and the similarities to their games as well as importance to their teams.
However, as time has gone on, it seems that the Bees are playing hard ball. They know United are a little desperate for Mbeumo and will probably do whatever it takes to get him. As this deal has gone on for so long, it would make United look like fools to be 'wasting' all this time on a player that didn't sign. Mbeumo wanting to join United would make it even worse.
Brentford apparently want £60m up front but at the moment, United have not coughed up such a bid which is probably the main reason as to why this deal hasn't happened yet. Now with the new football financial year kicking in today, maybe we will see some sort of agreement? Hopefully because fuck me is this deal getting annoying.
This isn't Mbeumo's fault nor Brentford's but we have to look once more at United. We tend to take super long on transfers (other than Cunha which I believe gave us hope that this transfer window will be different), to a point where we get bored and frustrated hearing the same thing in different ways. United are also the only team that's truly in for Mbeumo which again, makes it very annoying.
At least if we were competing with others, it would make more sense as to why this deal was dragging on.
What's more is that even with new co-owners, the modus operandi of business remains the same: slow, not getting the players in early, pissing everyone off, probably will end up overpaying for them late in the window, and can only do one deal at a time.
That last one is particularly annoying because if this Mbeumo deal is causing us to not do other business, then that isn't a good thing because there is a looooooooottttttt of business that needs to be done.
Ruben Amorim will soon be like Erik ten Hag because he'll be pulling his hair out due to players who are still here let alone those who aren't.
We all know he has problems with certain players and to think that perhaps there is still a chance that come next week when pre-season training starts, these guys will be part of the group. That will not be what he wants to see.
Some people say that Sir Jim Ratcliffe would like to emulate how Chelsea conduct their business. While what he's done at United is nowhere near what Todd Boehly has done at the Bridge - cost-cutting measures, sackings - there has been talk that he admires the way Chelsea do business. We also know that he wanted to buy the Blues back in 2022 so he obviously knows a good amount of how they conduct operations.
If this is true, then he is well wide of the mark.
Chelsea have signed three players (at the top of my head) Liam Delap - linked with United for a long time, Jamie Gittens and more recently Joao Pedro. The Blues are also in America at the Club World Cup yet are still bringing players in.
We have no CWC duties and are looking at players who want to come to us (Mbeumo) yet are taking forever to get it done.
I thought Sir Jim wanted to be best in class. They do know that best means being at the top, right? Maybe he meant best from the bottom?
So with all this being said, when is enough, enough?
I would like Mbeumo (I already have his 'Here we go' thumbnail image done as well as his player profile thumbnail and post ready to go, which shows how positive I am of getting him over the line) but if Brentford are playing hard ball, Mbeumo doesn't mind staying and the fact that it could be causing other deals to be delayed, then maybe we walk away?
I've already seen fans say this due to the length of time it's taking to be done and also that Brentford will probably ask for more than what Mbeumo is worth.
I do believe United are more the issue than anyone else but Brentford making this transfer more difficult than we initially thought is also a factor to consider.
I suppose they don't actually have to sell (and may not want to) after losing a key cog in their side (Norgaard), manager and Ivan Toney from last season so they may not want to see another important part of the Brentford tapestry leave. Many have been saying that with all of these departures, they could be an early favorite to be fighting relegation.
As a fan, I too am getting frustrated because we had the news that Mbeumo wants to join United a month ago and we haven't had a 'Here we go' yet let alone an official announcement.
This also means that Mbeumo will have less time to embed into the team and get used to his new teammates which can make a difference.
What about you? You think that we're getting to a point where we should be walking away? Or are we too far gone and just need to wait until the deal is done?
Whatever your feelings, you have to admit that this is truly annoying.
I thought that we would be over this given our new co-owners and football structure.
