Ruben Amorim came out with some strong words after United's 1-0 loss to Everton last night and for those who were happy with what we've seen in the last few weeks, sorry to say, but I think you've got to re-evaluate your standards.
To hear this from the manager goes back to what I said in my review of Amorim's first year in that his honesty in his interviews is so refreshing whether you actually want to hear it or not.
I believe we have been okay in these last five games: good first half v Sunderland gets us that win; however you win at Liverpool is great because it's them but we did get away with it a little when looking at their chances missed; a good hour against Brighton pretty much got us that win although we made hard work of it in the end; then the two truly disappointing draws at Forest and Spurs with the latter being particularly infuriating for me.
A lot of fans felt that it was a good result to get a draw at Spurs but this is where I question the standards of mentality of the fans: how can you be happy with that?!
We were winning until the last 10 minutes for fuck sakes! How do we then need a late equalizer from a corner to salvage a point?
This time of mindset is why we fail. We champion mediocrity and wonder why we don't get anywhere.
Amorim also added that Everton were the better side with 11 and 10 men.
This is the same Everton side who haven't won at Old Trafford since 2013 when David Moyes was our manager!
We also had the incentives of an undefeated streak, coming off of a good international break where several players played well, it was a game at Old Trafford, it was Amorim's one year anniversary, and many teams around had dropped points which gave us a chance to perhaps move up in the table and into those Champions League positions.
So many reasons on top of just having to win yet we didn't even show up.
I struggle to see where we go from here.
