I'm not the biggest Patrick Dorgu fan. I have my reservations about him as I've had since he joined the club and played his first minutes.
However, he sat me down after last night's performance. I thought he was absolutely superb π.
Whether it was going forward or helping out defensively (and taking a knock to the head once or thrice), the Dane played his best football in a United shirt culminating in that wonderful strike which turned out to be the match winner.

But what I was really happy with was his versatility.
The 21-year-old started off as the right-winger before moving over to the left in the second half once Amorim made a system change. We've seen Dorgu play as the left wing-back for most of the season as well as right wing-back on occasion. Right-winger though?Β Not so much although it isn't a position and role that is completely unfamiliar to him having done so previously at his former club Lecce.
These type of utility players can be the difference makers in the season. With the absentees at United, the squad is a bit thin in terms of options. The bench was mostly filled with academy players which was great but not ideal. To have a player or players such as Dorgu who can play in different positions is always a massive help to the manager and team as you know you can rely on them to fill any role.

With all that being said, it's about consistency. I know with young players you're going to have up-and-downs but if they truly want to make it and if this particular player wants me to change my mind on him, he'll have to play like this more regularly. These one-offs aren't really going to convince anyone.
It's very similar to United tbh.
But for last night, Patrick Dorgu, fair play lad. Fair play π.
