How good has he been?!
The United no 7 has undeniably been an important member of the squad this season as whenever available, Ruben Amorim has had no hesitation in getting him back into the team.
Last night during the 4-1 win at Wolves, was just his second start in the last seven games.
But what a performance it was.
The midfielder walked away with a goal and a man of the match performance to help guide United to those vital 3 points.
Considering how well he's performed, he deserves to start over Cunha. The Brazilian hasn't been at his best in his first campaign at Old Trafford as he put in another average performance against his old club despite getting the assist for Bruno's opener.
What I believe has made Mount so good is that he has played in this system before. He was one of Thomas Tuchel's standout players during the German's two years at Chelsea. Mount played on the left-side quite a lot which is where he is playing majority of the time this season.
Having a player who understands this formation is vitally important because we've seen how difficult it can be for othesr to get used to.
Clearly the manager is not going to change his formation. Clearly, he rates Mount highly as well. With his displays, he HAS to start. We seem better with him however, as per the video, we know he is unreliable.
With the AFCON coming up though, and Mbeumo and Amad leaving soon, Amorim will require his no 7 to stay fit because he needs him for this period. There is the option of using the skipper as a no 10 but the chances of that happening are little and less.
With his injury record, I see Mount more as a bench player, someone who can come on and do a job whenever needed. I don't think he's for the future as well even though he is only 26. It's because of these injuries and the fact that we signed two new no 10s that Mount shouldn't be a player we rely on as a key man in years to come.
With all that being said, I can't deny that if he were to be a regular from here on, I can't have too many complaints. What are your thoughts on Mount and how important do you think he is to Amorim?
