The Man Utd interim may not be interim much longer one way or the other as Carrick confirms that his future "is going to be decided pretty soon." That is not something new as that was a decision he and the club had already made.
Despite this he has said that the main focus is on the game. He also added that he will speak to the fans after the game against Forest on Sunday.
The ex-midfielder says that he is "immensely proud" to have returned to the club and help them move forward. "We're happy with the work we've done so far."
In terms of team news, Casemiro is back ahead of his final game at Old Trafford while Sesko remains out after his shin injury he picked up in the win over Liverpool.
Carrick says that the certainty of Casemiro's future helps as the Brazilian can focus solely on giving his best for the team. "Credit to him for the way he’s gone about that.”
In terms of his coaching staff, Carrick revealed that assistant Steve Holland has been "fantastic" and that he brings something different. He continued to say that Holland says the right things at the right times. "A very wise man."
He has a calmness and composure for Carrick and everyone at the club. He's got a lot of experience and been through a lot.
Final Thoughts
I don't think there's much to say on his future. I think it's safe to say we've all know for a while that he will be permanent manager whether you like it or not. I feel like he sort of confirmed this when he says that it's something he and the club have been discussing for a while.
All the reports suggest that United are looking to get it done before Sunday's game so if you read my preview, you will see what I have to say regarding his appointment.
You know when he says "we're happy with the work we've done so far", that 'so far' bit might be a hint that perhaps his time at the club isn't up - as we all suspect. Or it might be nothing. Just thought it was an interesting choice of words.
I had a feeling that Sesko will be out. Since he is, I would like to see Cunha play up top as the false 9. Zirkzee wasn't the best last week and other than giving him a bit of a send off at home, I see no reason to start him as he isn't part of the future.
Will still be interesting to see what Carrick does with the lineup though.
It's going to be difficult when Casemiro steps onto that pitch, but even more so when he steps off it.
I agree with Carrick that it's good that we already know his future instead of the usual speculation. This just allows us to know that it is the end and while it will be hard, we can just focus on one thing: playing well and delivering a great final performance worthy of the Theatre.
Casemiro is also the ultimate professional. I have no doubt that he will go out there and give his best as if it was his first game at Old Trafford instead of his last.
I'm going to admit, I think Steve Holland is a boring coach.
I don't think he's done anything special to warrant staying at United. His tactics are the same as what we saw at England with Gareth Southgate and they also got nowhere in the end.
This isn't a dig at him. This is just his coaching style. I just don't think it's good enough for a club like ours. For where we want to go and how we want to play, his counter-attacking style is not one I enjoy watching, even if it gets results.
With him and Carrick, I've seen no progression in their style. It's been the same since day one and at times when we've needed something different like last week, they did nothing.
The best managers and coaches adapt and evolve.
Considering that Holland is so experienced and worked with some of the greats, if anyone is going to know this or have the ability to adapt and display strong in-game management skills, it would be him.
Again though, I haven't seen anything.
Of course Carrick is going to praise him. Of course he's going to say all these positive things you would expect. And I also expect him and the other coaches to remain. Reports suggest that that will happen.
So be prepared to see more of this type of football next season.
All I want is for them to prove me wrong.
