It's no secret that United's no 17 appears to be out the door at Old Trafford after a fallout or three with manager Ruben Amorim.
Last week, the manager apparently told the 20 year old "You better pray that you can find a club to sign you." which was after he had told the squad that he will remain in charge and that Garnacho will have to find a new club.
Chelsea have always been the club that are linked with him more than others just as they were in January and they are back again.
The report from The Sun are saying that "Garnacho has instructed his agent to push for the #Chelsea move . He WANTS only #Chelsea and believes the project there will help his career" via CFCBlueNews.
The Guardian Sport via CFCNewsReport is where the price of £40m is coming from.
United were reportedly looking for around £60m for Garnacho in January which wasn't received well as many felt that the star boy was worth more than that. At £40m, it would be an absolute steal.
My feelings on Garnacho are mixed. I like him but don't love him. He most certainly has his strengths as a player for United but he also has frustratingly bad weaknesses. As he is only 20 though, there is definitely enough time for him to develop and perhaps grow out of this frustratingness particularly in the final third.
However, even I felt that we should be asking for more than £60m in January so £40m is definitely a no-no.
Given his attributes, availability and age, the no 17 should be worth around the £70m+ mark IMO. His current contract also expires in June 2028, three years from now so it's not as if he is out of contract soon which adds a little more to his price.
United are also in need of money but shouldn't take just anything for a player like this. I understand that as he is unwanted by the manager and the public fallout between the two as well as the fact that the club were looking to sell him in January which came out of the blue, people will say that perhaps United will take anything as they desperately want this player gone.
While all that may be true, it doesn't mean we shouldn't be getting a fair price for such a talented player.
Garnacho has also played more games (58) than any Chelsea player this season. Marc Cucurella has made the most appearances for the Blues with 48.
Garnacho's 11 goals in 24/25 means only Nicolas Jackson (13), Christopher Nkunku (14) and Cole Palmer (15) have scored more than United's 20 year old.
I can see him doing well at Chelsea although it makes little sense that they would be looking for another creative forward when they have so many. They need a striker as much as us and Garnacho is certainly no no 9.
Here are some players who've been sold for more than £40m in the last two seasons just for reference of how low this price is:
Moises Caicedo - £115m
Declan Rice - £105m
Aleksander Mitrovic - £50m
Michael Olise - £50.8m
Moussa Diaby - £50m
Dominic Solanke - £55m
Matheus Nunes - £53m
Max Kilman - £40m
When you look at those names that have been sold for the same asking price as Garnacho or more, it makes you think,
WHAT THE FUCK ARE WE DOING?!
If Diaby can leave Villa for £50m, then surely Garnacho is worth more than that? I mean, who the bloody hell is Diaby anyway (meaning no disrespect)?
We cannot keep getting rinsed like this in the transfer window and also get rinsed when buying players. This strategy has to change otherwise there will be no change at United.
But what do you reckon is a fair price for Alejandro Garnacho?
