Man Utd have confirmed the appointment of Michael Carrick as the new permanent Head Coach. He has signed a deal until June 2028.

This is what the new boss had to say:

“From the moment that I arrived here 20 years ago, I felt the magic of Manchester United.

“Carrying the responsibility of leading our special football club fills me with immense pride.

“Throughout the past five months, this group of players have shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here.

“Now it’s time to move forward together again, with ambition and a clear sense of purpose. Manchester United and our incredible supporters deserve to be challenging for the biggest honours again.”

Final Thoughts

I mean, we've known for a while.

We've had the 'Here We Go' and we had the David Ornstein update so this announcement is a bit flat tbh.

This isn't anything against Carrick himself but I didn't understand why the club didn't announce this in his speech after the final home game. I thought that that would have been a perfect time to announce it.

On his quotes, I understand that he's obviously proud and honoured to be the Head Coach of Man Utd which is what everyone would feel.

And I also know that he does have to speak positively about everything.

Because when he mentions how this current squad have "shown they can reach the standards of resilience, togetherness and determination that we demand here" because of what was done in the past six months, I hope he's just saying that instead of truly feeling it.

I mean, that's only half a season, with one game a week, and you played to their strengths - defensive, basic football, 4-2-3-1 formation - that's what they like and all they can do. They like you and obviously had issues with the previous manager which would have made them feel better after his departure and you joining. 'The new manager bounce' effect was infull swing.

But we know how these players have let down managers before. You saw this firsthand. Twice - Jose Mourinho and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.

So just be very careful is all I'm saying, in terms of who you trust in this squad.

I've already said sooooooooooo much regarding this appointment on here and on my TikTok and how I have my doubts about it.

Please go and look throughout this website and you'll find quite a few posts discussing why I think it's a huge risk to make him permanent boss or you can watch it on TikTok.

Now that he is official though, I will back him. I want him to do well. There's no point moaning about it anymore because it is done even if those reservations remain.

All I and us all want is for Man Utd to be back at the top. Carrick knows what that feeling is like. And it would be even greater if a legend of the club wins a title for us like Mikel Arteta did at Arsenal.

While Carrick does have to improve in certain areas, the club really have to go all out and back him. Whatever he wants, whoever he wants, whoever he doesn't want. They have to back him!

Talking about not being far away from a title is putting added pressure on everyone for nothing and all before we've actually done anything in the transfer market or a ball has been kicked for next season.

It's easy to talk to talk but now United have to walk the walk.

I'm hoping that Carrick can prove me wrong and do something incredible next season. The expectation is now quite high given how well he's performed in his six-month interim period.

Due to that success, I can understand why he's been given the job.

Now it's about delivering what they've promised:

Getting back to the top.

C'mon Michael. C'mon.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
