Now that the transfer window is closed (you can view my full rating here), United's squad is now complete (ish).
With the additions of Cunha, Mbeumo, Sesko and Lammens, Ruben Amorim has brought in two of the better attacking midfielders in the league to help with goals and creativity up front, a striker to put those chances away, and a new shot-stopper to help with err, stopping shots.
This is the current squad:
Goalkeepers
Altay Bayindir
Tom Heaton
He Who Shall Not Be Named
Senne Lammens
Defenders
Diogo Dalot
Noussair Mazraoui
Matthijs De Ligt
Harry Maguire
Lisandro Martinez
Tyrell Malacia (forgot bro was still here!)
Patrick Dorgu
Leny Yoro
Luke Shaw
Ayden Heaven
Tyler Fredricson
Diego Leon
Midfielders
Mason Mount
Bruno Fernandes
Casemiro
Manuel Ugarte
Kobbie Mainoo
Forwards
Matheus Cunha
Joshua Zirkzee
Amad
Bryan Mbeumo
Benjamin Sesko
Chido Obi
So, with that squad in mind, what would you deem is our best lineup when everyone is available?
Goalkeeper
Starting off with a pretty easy one, Senne Lammens in goal. Admittedly I haven't seen him play (like, at all) but I have seen both Bayindir and Onana play. That's more than enough to tell me that the Belgian is better than them.
There's also no point in United signing a new goalkeeper knowing that we needed a new goalkeeper only to go and play a current goalkeeper.
It would make no sense.
Back Three
Two of those positions are quite straightforward although with Mazraoui returning, that does make things slightly more difficult.
When everyone is available, you have to start Yoro and De Ligt. They simply CANNOT be dropped as they have been immense in these early stages of the season. They've been so immense in fact, that the pair of them are nominated for United's August player of the month.
At LCB, when he's fit, it's got to be the butcher. Lisandro Martinez is arguably our best ball-playing centre-back and brings that quality and calmness in possession that the others lack. He is also a leader and just an overall top defender.
However, as we know over the last couple of years, he's been injured more than not. His latest setback (ACL) was perhaps the worst of the lot. This leaves question marks over whether he is reliable for the future. I do believe he has to start when he is fit but if not, I would go with Mazraoui as the RCB, De Ligt in the middle and Yoro on the left.
Either way, it's a pretty solid back line.
Wing-backs
I've said it many times that I didn't understand why wing-backs weren't a priority position to strengthen. We don't have any wing-backs and they are arguably the most important areas of the team when it comes to the 3-4-3 formation.
The players we have in these positions have a lot to be desired with.
Dorgu seems to have nailed down that left wing-back spot although I will say that there has been and will continue to be inconsistencies with the Dane. He is young at 22 years old and isn't a full-on wing-back. He is more a traditional full-back.
Wing-backs are a hybrid of a full-back and winger which means being strong defensively and offensively. Dorgu is solid enough at the back but has his deficiencies going forward. His overall quality and decision-making in the final third can be lacklustre. He has been improving though, and we'll need him to continue to do so if we truly want to get the best out of this position.
Amad has to be the one on the right. He isn't the best RWB but he is probably the best we have.
While he may not be the most defensively sound player out there, he most definitely has the quality going forward. He is quick, tricky and creative which makes him ideal in attack.
As he is a full-on winger though, defensively, he isn't the best. Amad often vacates his back post and leaves his man free. The game at Fulham showed how oppositions can take advantage of this weakness of United's no 16.
The Ivorian isn't well built either which can be a problem as well.
Other options include Dalot but he has been poor so far this season; Mazraoui, although I don't think he's the best going forward and is better as a RCB; or and this is the option I would go with, Mbeumo.
I know he wasn't brought in to be a right wing-back but he is a hard worker, strong in terms of build and defensively, has the ability to get up and down the pitch with relative ease and is involved in much going forward.
This was pretty much what he did at Brentford meaning that he would be no stranger to such a role. Mbeumo playing as the RWB would also potentially allow for Amad to play as that right-sided no 10, which is the position most think he is best suited for.
The RWB is a position of potential weakness.
Midfield
But not as weak as this area of the team.
We all know that Amorim is going to pick Casemiro and Bruno. He did it throughout pre-season and has done it so far in the first four games of the campaign.
Whether that is the best midfield pairing is debatable. I know a lot would say that it isn't but why I say debatable is because the only other options are Ugarte who by his own admission, hasn't had the best start to the season ("We haven't started the season very well. My level wasn't the best either. We have to be realistic and honest" - Ugarte speaking to El Observador via AmorimEra_) and Mainoo who in addition to being out of favour with the manager, doesn't have a position that actually gets the best out of him. It's difficult to see where he fits in.
I've just kept it as Casemiro and Bruno because that's what I think Amorim will do but for me, the best available midfield is Ugarte and Mainoo. I believe they are more balanced than any other pairing. Casemiro is too slow and Bruno isn't a no 8 and we've seen how this duo gets played through. Ugarte does have the legs and is relatively quick while Mainoo balances that out with his ability in possession and how he runs with the ball.
These four aren't the best options which is why neglecting a midfielder in the transfer window could derail our season.
Attack
Again, pretty simple.
Cunha as left-sided no 10 with Mbeumo on the right and Sesko up front. We haven't actually seen this trio play together that much which has been disappointing but I'm sure as the season progresses, we will see this front line a lot more.
There is a case to keep Mount in the team because the no 7 has been brilliant whenever he's played. It was surprising to see him being used ahead of the new striker but you couldn't really argue with that selection given how well he played.
But as we've signed a new no 9, we have to play him. This was an area that was in desperate need of improvement so there's no point in leaving Sesko on the bench. Mount is also unreliable due to injuries. He's actually injured at the moment after being taken off at halftime during the win over Burnley. Let's hope that that isn't anything too serious.

But that would be my best starting XI with what we have. You know I would change the midfield and perhaps right wing-back but this is what I think the manager will do.
Do you agree with that team? Or are there changes you would make?
