The curse is over 😌.

United finally manage to beat Spurs which is coincidentally, the same result we had against them the last time we defeated them.

The score line suggests a routine win, which is exactly what it turned out to be.

Alright, a lot of that had to do with a blatant early red card for Christian Romero but hey, that ain't our problem.

But the thing is, United were the better team in my opinion, even at 11 v 11. There were moments where Spurs had more of the ball (for a period they had 95% possession) but those were just moments before that red card on the half hour mark.

After that point, it felt like there was only ever going to be one winner.

‍

What I liked about United is that the opener came just a few minutes later as that man Mbeumo did it again.

And it was from a set-piece 🀣.

However, it wasn't by traditional means that United scored from that corner.

A well-worked, training ground routine saw Bruno pass the ball on the line to Mainoo who laid it off around the corner to Thomas Frank's former star on the edge of the box. Not the cleanest of strikes but one that was still good enough to beat the goalkeeper.

It was at an important time to score that goal because you don't want the game to drift against ten men.

Heading into the break at halftime with a 1-goal lead just gave us a beat of a reprieve. The second half would be a chance to really get at Spurs and score a couple more goals.

What we saw was something that actually frustrated me.

‍

It was a United side that lacked that bit of intensity and energy that which they had in the first 45. There were too many sloppy passes, unnecessary flicks and a team that looked like they were winning 4-0 rather than 1-0.

Complacency is the word.

Everybody was just waiting for that second goal as we really didn't want to get into a position where Spurs may have a chance of getting back into the game late-on.

Thankfully, it was the man who almost always stands up in the moments where we need him most.

Skipper Bruno came in at the back post after a wonderful cross by Dalot. The captain shinned it but because of the pace on the delivery, it was enough to beat Spurs' no 1.

That goal just settled a lot of nerves as you could feel the relief at Old Trafford.

‍

Carrick then felt comfortable enough to make changes as he brought on Zirkzee, Ugarte and Mazraoui for Mbeumo, Casemiro and Shaw, perhaps with a mind on Tuesday's game at West Ham.

Right at the end, another substitute in Sesko - who came on for Cunha earlier in the game - should've made it 3-0 as he had a free header from yards out only to head it straight at the goalkeeper. He could've taken a touch as well. This robbed Bruno of another assist which won't help in him trying to break that assist record of 20.

The captain btw, now has 200 goal contributions for United with that match-winner. Some record πŸ‘.

Carrick will be pleased with the overall performance and result but know that this team needs to do more when in such dominant positions in games.

He is now four-from-four and strengthening his grip on top 4 as this win now moves us 4 points ahead of Chelsea at least until they play their game.

A lot of 4s in there.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
