The United boss was back in front of the press ahead of what is going to be some season as the Portuguese takes charge of the Red Devils for his first full campaign. And it doesn't begin with an easy one as Mikel Arteta's Gunners travel to Old Trafford to kick-off 25/26.

The manager gave some interesting insights not least what he picked up from what was a "disaster season" according to Amorim himself, in regards to 24/25 but also the club's goals for the year ahead as well as team news, transfers and more.

One of his more intriguing quotes was when he spoke about last season. The MUFC boss said that "I learned a lot" from last season but that he doesn't need to "focus on the future. That doesn't matter and I don't care." Instead, he prefers a more day-to-day approach with trying to remove external noise so as to focus on the here and now.

He adds that his side a "better" and are training harder with there being more preparations done to "cope with the demands of the game."

"I'm really more confident."

I mean, there was hell of a lot to learn from last season. If you can't from that campaign, then you never will. Amorim is someone I trust. He gave me this reassurance when he became manager in November 2024. There just seemed to be this feel about him that all will be well, in time. Of course last season was last season but even throughout all those horrific matches, there was still a part of me that believed that Ruben is the right man.

What I think he learned was that the atmosphere in and around the club was dire and that if he were to truly change things, it would have to start with this. We've heard that so far this season, that change has been implemented as there has been a more positive air about United. All of this coming from the manager.

Perhaps there was too much thought given to the future such as resting all hopes on the Europa League which had no guarantees of victory, that we forgot to try and win games in the league. It was almost as if we just thought we'll leave it all on that final against Spurs and no one will remember what happened domestically. Maybe if we tried to be better in the PL that form would have made us more confident heading into that final which we ultimately didn't perform in.

I'm sure that training will be better now due to fewer games because if it isn't, then this season will be another failure. There really is no excuses.

Amorim also discussed how one the main goal's of the season is to qualify for Europe but admits that even with one game a week, "we will have to fight a lot because there are more teams with time together than us."

He mentioned how new signing Benjamin Sesko is ready to play despite only being at the club a week. "Physically, he is ready." Amorim also praised his new striker for asking him questions during training.

The Portuguese also spoke about his midfield and how it is important for his skipper Bruno Fernandes to "stay in one position during training" and that if they want something different in midfield, a player like Mason Mount can be used.

The United manager is also quite content with his attacking options after the club changed their whole front line with the signings of Matheus Cunha, Bryan Mbeumo and Sesko but acknowledges that they too, will have to fight for their places.

On team news, the manager confirms that Noussair Mazraoui and Lisandro Martinez are unavailable for Sunday's match but that Joshua Zirkzee and Andre Onana are ready even though they didn't feature in any pre-season game.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
