MUFC's holding midfielder of the past four seasons has decided to call it a day at Old Trafford once his contract expires at the end of the current campaign.

There was much debate over whether he will trigger the option for the year extension but as per this news, that will not come to pass.

Here is what the 33-year-old had to say about this decision:

“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life.

“From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.

“It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.

“We still have a lot to fight for together; my complete focus will, as always, remain on giving my everything to help our club to succeed.”

Since joining United in 22/23, the former Real Madrid man has made 146 appearances scoring 21 goals which for a CDM, is actually not a bad return. A decent amount of those strikes were important as well.

He helped United lift the Carabao Cup which was our first trophy in six years in Erik ten Hag's first campaign in charge. Casemiro scored what became a bit of a trademark header in the 2-0 win over Newcastle in the final.

The Brazilian will also leave having won the FA Cup the following season showing that he wins trophies wherever he goes being one of the most decorated players of this past generation.

Final Thoughts

Admittedly, I wasn't the biggest fan of his when he signed. I always thought of him as too much of a shithouse at Madrid and not the type of player I want at United.

However, at that moment in time, we needed a CDM and as he was (and perhaps still is?) the best holding midfielder of this past generation, I couldn't complain too much.

Once he got on the pitch though...

I watched a decent amount of him at Real Madrid and I must say, I never thought he was that good 😳.

Sure he still had that shithousery but I do believe it was needed at United because we have players that didn't have much of a bite and could be too nice. Casemiro brought that as well as experience that we required and a winning mindset having won everything in Spain.

I didn't realize we also needed not just his ability as a no 6 but one who conducted the game, created chances and scored a good amount of goals. His heading ability is next level.

While Marcus Rashford won the player of the season award, my pick was Casemiro. I just think he was too important in that team for his all-round game, goals and experience that he brought. It helped everyone including the manager who was also in his first season.

The following two campaigns though, were ones to forget as he took a complete 180 in terms of his performances. Some even made fun of his weigth upon returning from holiday after the 22/23 season.

He also happened to pick up his first major injury in 23/24 which kept him out for two months.

Ruben Amorim then came in and things didn't get much better for him.

Casemiro was isolated by the Portuguese who didn't play him for five games straight despite being fit.

The former United manager then had a change of heart towards the end of last season as the Brazilian became a familiar fixture in the team once more especially in the Europa League. His experience in Europe meant he gave us a bit of an advantage. Casemiro was key in the games against Lyon and Athletic Club scoring in both ties en route to the final which we unfortunately lost.

I have come to like our Brazilian and do think he's the best Brazilian to ever play for the club (although that bar isn't set too high). The passion and heart he plays the game with is something all fans love to see of their players and if more of our squad showed this same desire, maybe we wouldn't be as crap.

He will be missed but I think this is the correct decision for all parties.

Almost 34, Casemiro is coming to the end of his illustrious career (if he wasn't already) and considering that he has a good few performances where he was absolute shit, the fact that, to an extent, his legs have gone, and has a high wageof£350k-a-week that we need to remove, this is a good time to say goodbye.

United needed a new midfielder (particularly CDM) anyway but considering how poorly run our club is, we probably wouldn't have signed the quality of player we needed had Casemiro stayed. I mean, we're looking at Wilfried Ndidi and Ruben Loftus-Cheek for fuck sakes.

At least with Casemiro gone, it will mean a lot of money saved and the fact that we will need to replace him with a player worthy of taking his place.

There is still four months of the season remaining and while he and United can't win anything, qualifying for the Champions League will be of HUGE benefit for the club.

Let's hope that Casemiro can continue the form he's shown for most of this season.

But what are your thoughts about our Brazilian midfielder leaving at the end of the season? Good decision or not?

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
