The Captain May Have Had Enough!

Reports have emerged that the MUFC skipper is tired of what's happening at Old Trafford to a point where he may want an exit at the end of the season.

He was part of the United side that were knocked out of the FA Cup at the first stage in the 2-1 home defeat to Brighton. This resulted in the club being knocked out of both domestic cups at the first attempt, will go trophy-less in back-to-back seasons all while playing their fewest matches (40) in a season since the first World War.

And not to mention there has been no European football this season. There might not be any next season as well depending on how the rest of the campaign goes with new interim boss Michael Carrick at the wheel.

This new interim coach is part of the reason I believe Fernandes may want out as for him at 31-years-old to have to start another project is perhaps a little too much to ask. Carrick (again) will become Bruno's seventh manager if you include interims. Seventh 😳.

The news is coming from Pete Hall and The iPaperSport and they're saying:

"Several sources say there's a general fear that Bruno Fernandes has had enough and will look to leave Man United."

Hall adds that Bayern Munich are potential suitors for the United captain should he decide to leave at the end of the season.

Imagine that: Bruno Fernandes with Luis Diaz to his left, Michael Olise to his right, Harry Kane ahead of him and playing in the Bundesliga.

Bro would so cook, it ain't even funny 🔥🤯.

Ngl, I kinda want to see that 👌.

Update - 21/01/26

It came out last night that United will try to keep the captain for at least one more season.

Rob Dawson of the ESPN said that "Man United are planning talks with Bruno Fernandes about his future ahead of the World Cup with club officials poised to tell him they want to keep him at Old Trafford for at least one more year."

He adds that the club will ask Bruno and his representatives about his future before the tournament in America.

Final Thoughts

If I'm being completely honest, I'm not entirely opposed to this potential move.

I am a big fan of Bruno's, I have been since he joined almost 6 years ago but that is a long time to be at a club in which you've achieved much too little for a player of his quality.

Granted it's pretty great that he's stayed loyal to us for so long despite being too good for this team but if we're being completely honest, he has wasted his best years as a professional at United.

Admittedly, the consistency is incredible as to perform like he has in this shit a side is nothing short of remarkable which shows the ability he has. His commitment to the team is undeniable as it is one of the skipper's greatest assets: he gives it his all.

But for all the good he's done, Bruno is a bit too old now at 31 and with the likes of Bryan Mbeumo, Amad, Mason Mount and the man I believe could take over from the magnifico, Matheus Cunha, there are more than enough players who can replace him, sort of.

We need to move on from him and I think he needs to move on from us, for his own benefit more than anyone else's.

I know that now under Carrick, he will be playing in his best position of attacking midfielder where we can see how deadly and important he is to this team, yet even still, I do feel it's time to move on.

We do have others coming into the side and I would like to see how we play without Bruno.

I don't mind keeping him if he continues to play in that position and if the player himself doesn't mind at least one more year at Old Trafford.

Would he want to stay if we don't get Champions League football though?

That is quite a question because despite his unwavering loyalty for so many years, I don't think he'll be happy to be out of Europe's elite club competition again. In his six years at the club, Bruno has only featured in the Champions League for pretty much one-and-a-half seasons:

20/21 - knocked out in group stage and relegated to Europa League

21/22 - knocked out in RO16

23/24 - Finished bottom of group and out of Europe entirely

Should United under Carrick achieve UCL football, perhaps this might cause the skipper to remain for that one more year.

On top of this, I think United other than just Champions League qualification, need to show Bruno why he should stay.

I suppose this might be a form of player power if the club have to give him reasons to remain rather than him wanting to or not regardless of the situation, but as Bruno has done so for quite some time, I do think he'll want some guarantees before making such an important decision.

One of which would be who the next manager will be.

I have a post on the next manager coming out later today.

Who that will be may play a big part in not only keeping Bruno, but in terms of who else the club could sign.

While he is 31 and coming towards the end of his career, we know that because of how fit he is, Bruno could probably play at the highest level for a good few years to come.

Whether the highest level will be at Old Trafford remains to be seen.

It is also the last big deal he will most likely make in his career so it has to be the correct one.

As I said in the video, it's not about whether you like him or not but more that it's such a big issue when one of the highest-paid players, best player and captain is seriously considering leaving.

It would be a MASSIVE blow to the club.

And a part of me is all here for it.

What do you think about Bruno Fernandes potentially departing Man Utd? Will it be a good thing for him and the club, or not?

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
