The PROBLEM with Man Utd: part 1

Breaking News!

This is something that I've had to add to this post as David Ornstein came out with a bomb!

He says that "Ruben Amorim informs Manchester United squad he will be in charge next season + tells Alejandro Garnacho to find new club." This was all done in a meeting at Carrington between the manager and his players.

I feel like this was coming. There appeared to be a bit of a rift between the manager and player for a while. Those 20 minutes off the bench for Garnacho in the final was perhaps the last straw for him at United.

Is this a way for the club to show that they back Ruben Amorim? Garnacho is a well-loved player (by half the fan base at least) so for the manager to say he wants him gone and for United to back him on it, is this an indication of them keeping their word of sticking by Amorim?

This isn't the first time the Portuguese has done something like this. Marcus Rashford was a player he left out for a while before letting him go on loan to Villa. That was seen as an eye-opener because while Rashford was underperforming, to see him leave United was seriously unexpected.

It's also something he did whilst at Sporting as if players weren't in line, he wasn't afraid of axing them, fan favorite or not.

I wonder who else he may have told to 'pack their bags.'

It could also be something that puts a smile on the faces of INEOS because we know there was a chance that Garnacho could've been sold in January with many believing it was because United wanted the money even though Sir Jim Ratcliffe came out and said that the club won't be looking to move young players on for financial gain. Whether that was true or not, the fact that he is going to be moved on now will bring in some money, which appears the sole purpose of the club at the moment given the struggles financially.

I don't know whether the 20 years old will even play tomorrow. If not, then the last we saw of the star boy was the Europa League final in which he didn't have enough time to truly affect the game. What a horrible last memory 🤮.

This is not how we want to be sending players off when they leave the club. It's a further indication of just how poorly run we are.

Anyways, just read the rest of the post. I think it covers pretty much everything 👍.

That sub-title (The PROBLEM with Man Utd) has many different meanings and before people get excited or come at me for it, this isn't me saying I hate Garnacho and if we sell him everything will be great and we'll win the Champions League even though we're not in it.

This is more a discussion about all that is wrong with the club with Garnacho being a small part of it, a small part that gives a massive indication of reasons as to why we fail.

So we all know that this season has been an utter failure, we are going to finish just above the relegation zone with our lowest points tally in Premier League history, no European football next season, no trophies and the humiliation of losing to FUCKING SPURS in a European final.

Everything that could've gone wrong, has gone wrong. There ain't no words to describe it.

This isn't Garnacho's fault. This isn't Amorim's fault. Are they part of the problem? Perhaps but we don't get to this point because of any one individual. Each plays their part but the issues run deeper, or should I say, higher?

Garnacho's comments

You know the comments. We've seen the comments post the defeat to Spurs. ICYMI, here is a reminder of what the forward said:

“It’s difficult for all of us. This season has been shit”.

“We lost the final, we didn’t beat anyone in PL. It’s very difficult”.

“Until the final, I played every round helping the team… then the final arrives and I play 20 minutes?! I don’t know”.

“The final, the season, the whole situation of the club… I will try to enjoy the summer and then we will see what happens”.

There's absolutely NOTHING WRONG with what he said. I categorically agree with him. In this instance.

So many people were upset with him saying this because it doesn't sound right, he's attacking the manager a little, he's being a little petulant. All of that maybe true but is he wrong to be feeling this way?

Did we not have a shit season? Did he not play pretty much every minute (3570 minutes out of a possible 5370) of every game? Did you agree with Amorim that he should've dropped Garnacho for a player who's been injured most of the season and has been crap whenever he's played in Mason Mount? That isn't Mount's fault btw, the manager selected him instead.

Garnacho was visibly unhappy and not just because he didn't feature much in that final but also because we lost in what was one of the WORST PERFORMANCES OF THE SEASON, which is saying something because there's been many such games. He is a player who while he is frustrating, makes things happen one way or another and is the type of player you could use in a final particularly one that was boring AF as this.

And he certainly deserved to start considering that he's always available, plays Thursday-Sunday no problem, plays in different positions and has 21 goal contributions from 58 matches.

Why was he dropped?

There was division about the possible sale of Garnacho in January as there is division now after Amorim told him to find a new club. This is a problem with several of our players and if you read my post about Bruno Fernandes, you'll see what I think about players who split us up.

As mentioned, I said I agree with Garnacho, in this instance.

However, there's been more times when I haven't.

This Twitter post pretty much covers it all when it comes to Garnacho's attitude over the last two seasons and with the recent managers:

I think this fan has covered it pretty well.

Even though what he said after the final is true and you can understand his frustrations, is it the time to do it? Maybe have a word with the manager in private instead of coming out in public? To be fair to Garnacho though, he may have done so and felt his words weren't heeded 🤷‍♂️. Yet even still, there's no real need to cause unnecessary added drama.

Even his brother can be quite immature.

Garnacho is just 21 years old. There's going to be this immaturity from him at times but as a professional, you should know better and if not, that is where the club has to come in.

The no 17 is a good player with great potential. We see it every week and there's something about him as he just makes things happen. That is not something you teach. Either a player has it or they don't and when you have a player like that in your team, you should try to keep them.

I like Garnacho he's not a player that I'd be saying we should absolutely sell and certainly not before 10 others at least. However, through such immature things as the post above mentioned, I've come around to the fact that his character and personality even at such a young age, isn't exactly what we need.

I also feel he believes he is better than he is. Arrogance is one thing but when you don't walk the walk, people will criticise you.

He is young and there is much time to develop, but this type of character can be frustrating.

On the pitch, his attitude is fine as he does try harder than most. He was one player who actually looked like they could make a difference in Wednesday's final.

But off it, it's questionable.

I've always felt that there was a problem between him and Amorim. I have no information on this as it is just a gut feeling. I think it came in when we played City and Garnacho wasn't in the squad.

Even after the final, Amorim came out and said that Garnacho missed a big chance in the semifinal that may have cost United as part of the reasoning for not selecting him against Spurs. Clearly the manager sees something in him that he may not like for him to point out such a moment.

I don't really like us selling young players particularly ones with as much potential as Garnacho but I'm not someone who is a lover of his to the extent that I will be upset now that he's leaving.

I get that you would be upset at your role under a new coach if it isn't getting the best out of you but the best of players are capable of adapting to most systems. This goes back to those reports that the players are not in agreement with the tactics of Amorim and that it doesn't suit them.

If that is the case with Garnacho, then perhaps he should leave. Players who can't adapt or have problems doing so is not the type of player we need at United.

News yesterday from James Ducker said that "United would likely accept bids in the region of £60m for Alejandro Garnacho." This price has been repeated by Ben Jacobs. Is that a fair price for him? I would like around the £70m to £80m mark when considering his potential and age. £60m is still a decent price although I'm not sure how many clubs would be willing to pay that after this public fallout. That doesn't really do any good for when clubs want to sell players.

Final Thoughts

Perhaps it's because of these off-field and social media antics that's caused this rift between manager and player. Maybe it's as simple as Amorim doesn't rate Garnacho and doesn't see how he fits into his team?

There's many reasons as to why there are problems but the issue remains: there are problems.

No more 'Viva Garnacho' will be heard at Old Trafford. It's a sad way to end the journey of a young player with the potential he has. I hope he goes off and smashes it and if other players who've left are any indication of this, Garnacho absolutely will. He's much better than all of them.

Thanks for the memories star boy. You will be missed.

What do you make about this whole Garnacho situation and Amorim telling him to fuck off?

Part 2 will be out soon and it will focus more on the club and why we have such issues resulting in this failure as Man Utd.

Yeah, I can talk and talk and talk about the things I love, like football and United, as you can see in this post. Once I get on a roll, it's pretty hard to stop me. This is all coming from a guy who doesn't talk that much. How weird.
